Multi-Peril Crop Insurance

The insurance Cover targets

Cereals: maize, wheat, barley, rice, sorghum, oats, rye corn, triticale, canary seed, millet etc.

 

Pulses: beans, Pea, sunflower, canola, lentil, vetch, kale, mustard, lupin, safflower, and Linseed among other dicotyledonous crops.

 

Horticultural crops: Vegetables, fruits and cut flowers

Period

Seasonal crop cover (starts from germination to harvesting)

Summary of Risks Covered

The insurance covers for physical loss or damage to growing crop directly caused by:- 

  •        Drought
  •       Uncontrollable pests and diseases
  •      Hailstone damage
  •      Flooding of the crop field
  •      Fire and lightning
  •     Windstorm
  •    Excessive rainfall

Basic Extensions

The following can be added to the cover for farmers who have transport and storage:-

–       Transit risks from the farm to the store or to a recognized buyer within the country

–       Storage Risks – temporary cover while the crop is stored at the farm or an agreed storage facility

These extensions do attract some additional premium, which are also competitive.

Basis of Cover

The farmer can take insurance for the following:-

–       Production/input costs

–       Value of expected harvest based on the long term average yield

Yield Guarantee

65% of the long-term average yield of each farmer on average.
